People face many different types of challenges in life, especially those with disabilities. Through their perseverance, those with physical and/or intellectual challenges can also teach us many things about others and ourselves.
Through their art, if you look very closely, you will see a whole new world that we did not even know existed. Their art is totally uninhibited and offers us a singular glimpse into a realm that only they inhabit, revealing to us the deepest darkest corners as well as the brightest of lights.
It is a realm that we can never fully gain access to, nor fully understand or comprehend but we can gain a new perspective as well as appreciation for what we are proud to call, “A Different Vision”. Our artists have created a truly amazing collection of art that expresses this vision in a wide variety of media.
ArcWorks! is a guild for artists with physical and or intellectual challenges. ArcWorks! has been changing the lives and perceptions of its member artists since 2004. Motivated by the belief that everyone has the right to direct his or her life to the highest degree possible, ArtWorks! was founded in response to the need expressed by families and caregivers to offer an expanded, more formal opportunity in the arts for the individuals and communities served by the Family Support Division of the North Shore Arc of Danvers, MA, a not for profit 503(C3) organization incorporated in 1954.
The mission of ArcWorks is to provide opportunities for individuals with challenges to explore and discover their creative abilities, to express themselves through the arts and to
provide the opportunity that enables their artistic voice to be heard by a ever expanding community.
ArcWorks’ goal is to:
· Identify, motivate and enable artists and artisans to create their work
· Foster relationships between art communities and our artists
· Assist member artists in the promotion, distribution and sale of their work

The Gallery @ Southside provides a forum to artists with challenges to share their artistic voice with the greater community. Since its opening the Gallery @ Southside has enabled artists to exhibit and offer their work for sale directly to the community.
The exhibits of the Gallery @ Southside have spawn a
traveling show entitled “Southside, a Retrospective” that features the work of
exhibitors of The Gallery @ Southside, those who have taken part in the
ArtWorks! Guest Artist Workshop Series and other local artists who have
expressed an interest in exhibiting their work. “Southside, a Retrospective”
has had showings in venues as diverse as the Marblehead Art Association,
Encouraged by the success of their exhibits at The Gallery @ Southside, several of the artists have gone on to have independent exhibits of their own.
The accomplishments of The Gallery @ Southside are not only measured by its commercial success. More importantly, The Gallery @ Southside has enabled artists to achieve personal goals and has given them the opportunity to identify themselves as artists rather than as an individual with a disability.
ArcWorks!
Guest Artists Workshop Series
While under the guidance of local artists, the ArtWorks! Guest Artist Workshop Series is designed to provide participants the opportunity to explore and express themselves in an array of artistic mediums that they may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience. ArcWorks! Guest Artist Workshop Series is comprised of 10 workshops offered monthly from September to June. Each month a local artist and volunteers from local art associations, educational facilities, community businesses as well as private citizens have come together to offer a one and a half hour workshop in the guest artist’s areas of expertise.
